It will depend on your current situation, if you are a healthy individual that can tolerate the ingredients in the protein bar, and are looking to benefit from a high protein snack the protein bars will be good for your situation.  Protein bars can add nutritional value to your already well balanced diet. I highly recommend to include a variety of foods into your diet to make sure it is optimized. You need to keep an eye on the ingredients of the protein bar. If the bar contains whey protein concentrate and you are lactose intolerant it may not be a really good idea for you to eat it. You can find protein bars with almost every dietary restriction like lactose free or vegan.

Do protein bars make you gain weight?

Protein bars are famous, some will have the perception that this will likely make you gain weight, but this is not the case. Some protein bars are actually low calorie in comparison of other foods, but they can also be high calorie depending on the protein bar that you choose. Ultimately, if you overeat the amount of calories you eat in a day you will gain weight, if you don’t you will not gain weight.

Do not eat protein bars as if they don’t have any calories. There are some protein bars that can have up to 300 calories, this is not bad but if you are buying protein bars to eat them when you want you are not in the right route.

Will a protein bar give you energy?

Some protein bars are marketed as “they will give you energy”. Is this true? It is! Some protein bars out there have the purpose of giving you energy and they will likely give you that result. The fact is that you will get a good amount of macro nutrients to boost your energy levels. But you can also accomplish this by having a balanced meal. But the truth is that protein bars don’t have any stimulants and they won’t give energy like a workout would.

What to look for in a protein bar?

There are a lot of protein bars in the market right now, the truth is that you will have to make a smart decision when purchasing protein bars, and you need to take into consideration your specific situation, here are the things you should typically have to look into when buying a protein bar.

  • The type of protein in the bar.
  • Protein quantity
  • Quality
  • Price
  • Taste
  • Caloric
  • Overall Ingredients

These are some of the things you should consider when buying a protein bar, all of those are very important since some people will not really care much about taste, but will prefer quality and there will be different situations. The most important thing here your goals. Make sure that your nutrition is according to your goals.

When to eat protein bars?

There is no specific time to eat protein bars, some like to eat them pre-workout and others post- workout. Some people like to use them as a meal replacement. Yes you can eat protein bars at any time! There is no specific time when its best. You can also eat them everyday with no issues. For these reasons, make sure that you buy a high quality protein bar from a trusted company.

This way you won’t have to be hesitating to eat another one or wondering if you are eating too much. Just remember to eat everything with moderation. I know from experience that is easier to just open a packet of protein bars and call it a meal, but you also want to be able to eat whole foods that are nutritious. It is just that some of my recommended protein bars taste really good that you will want to have another one.
